Among friends …

How are we to live among our friends and siblings in Christ? Here’s a sampling of some purposes God has given us:

  • “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” (1 Peter 3:8)
  • “… pray for one another …” (James 5:16)
  • “Do not speak against one another, brethren He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.” (James 4:11)
  • “Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” (1 Peter 4:9)
  • “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.” (1 Peter 3:8)
  • “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” (1 Peter 3:7)
  • “If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?” (James 2:15-16)
  • “… confess your sins to one another …”  (James 5:16)
  • “… if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.” (James 5:19-20)
  • “This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.” (1 John 3:11)
  • “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.” (1 John 3:16)
  •  “fervently love one another from the heart” (1 Peter 1:22)
  • “Love the brotherhood of believers” (1 Peter 2:17)
  • “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)
  • “And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (1 John 3:23-24)
  • “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)
  • “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4: 11)
  • “If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1 John 4:20-21)
  • “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:17-18)
  • “LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF”  (James 2:8)
  • “Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged …” (James 5:9)
  • “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.” (Matt 5:23-24)
