Sometimes, even though it’s not the primary focus of this blog, I can’t help commenting on something that’s in the news. Some of those commentaries are published first as op-eds or on other blogs. Still, I can’t resist sharing them with my readers here.

Why Can’t Anyone Believe Mel Gibson’s Mentally Ill? I think it’s a continuing signal of stigma that even when mental health professionals were interviewed — only by the NYT and ABC-TV as far as I can tell — Gibson’s publicly stated diagnosis has never been mentioned. And this column was only accepted by The Iris, the local NAMI advocacy newsletter.
